Orpheus was born and lived on the territory of present-day Bulgaria. He had the great talent of a musician and a singer who could cure both soul and body with his songs.
We can only speculate whether his DNA was passed through generations but at the moment Bulgaria has 48 concert masters who perform on the biggest stages of the 5 continents- in Vienna, Munich, Hambourg, Paris, Lisbon, Johannesburg (the UAE), Manaus( Brazil), Milano, Madrid, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hollywood, Louisiana( the USA), London, Heidelberg, Alborg, etc.
Professor Plamen Dzhurov has once said “If someone is a concertmaster, he must definitely be Bulgarian”
“To be a concertmaster means to be a perfect musician, someone possessing a strong character who can unite all the other musicians and singers. The role of the concertmaster is very responsible”.
Before becoming concertmasters on the world stages, these masters performed to the enjoyment of the Bulgarian audience.
The Sofia Opera, represented by its director –the academician Plamen Kartalov, offers new elements in their performances. For the first time in its history, in 2017, in the town of Vidin they performed opera on a barge on the Danube River. The plot of the opera “The Cloak” by Giacomo Puccini really takes place on a river and that is why the barge and the Danube River were used as a natural décor.
