The Sopot monastery is situated in the vicinities of the town of Sopot. Initially it was a small chapel which grew into a monastery. The final touches of the housing buildings took place in 1665. During the Russian-Turkish War from 1877-1878 the Ottoman army burned down the town and the monastery at its retreat from the town. After the destruction, the housing buildings were restored together with the church to their original outlook. The monastery has interesting icons among which is the temple's icon. They date from 1823. The glory of the Sopot monastery is due to the active participation of its nuns in the national liberation movement.
