The Rhyton from Rozovetz

The Rhyton from Rozovetz, Plovdiv District was discovered in the Southern Mound of the village of Rozovetz. It has a height of 16,3 cm and a weight of 449,50 grams. It dates back to the beginning of IV c. B. C. The rhyton has a low horn and a realistic head of a doe. It is damaged at the forehead and part of its back side is missing. A huge ivy garland engirdles its neck. The ears of the animal were made separately and were later soldered. The eyes are full-length incrusted with glass. The rhyton's horn is covered with a relief scene representing two satyrs entranced by the rhythm of orgiastic dances and a third one heading to the left. The satyrs' faces have flattened noses and pointed ears.
